Tiny Medieval Church in Dorset | The Hidden Story of St Edwold’s Church

Hidden deep in the Dorset countryside stands one of the smallest churches in England. In this video we explore the remarkable history of St Edwold’s Church, Stockwood — a tiny medieval church tucked away in the quiet hamlet of Stockwood. Dating largely from the 15th century, this unique church measures only around nine metres long, making it widely known as the smallest church in Dorset. Despite its small size, St Edwold’s has a fascinating story that stretches back more than a thousand years. The church is dedicated to Saint Edwold, a little-known Saxon prince who chose the life of a hermit rather than accepting a royal crown. According to tradition, Edwold lived and prayed in Dorset after the death of his brother Edmund the Martyr, who was killed by Viking invaders in 870. Today, the church is preserved by the Churches Conservation Trust, protecting this peaceful piece of English history for future generations. Join us as we visit this hidden medieval church, explore its story, and discover why the smallest churches often hold the biggest history. #hauntsandjauntsadventures #medievalchurch #englishhistory #historicchurch #churchhistory #hiddengems #britishhistory #exploreengland #historyvideo #churchesconservationtrust #historicplaces #englandtravel #ruralengland #medievalhistory #historicengland 🌐 Follow me on social media: 📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hauntsandja... 🎬TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@hauntsandjaun... ☕️If you would like to support my adventures you can buy me a coffee here: https://buymeacoffee.com/Hauntsandjau...
