Aux origines de la Guerre d'Indochine

September 2nd is a national holiday in Vietnam. We celebrate the declaration of independence proclaimed by Ho Chi Minh in 1945 at the end of World War II. But in reality, instead of giving freedom to the Vietnamese, this date marks the beginning of the Indochina War. One of the bloodiest in the history of French decolonization. So to understand how and why this war began, we must tell the story of French Indochina. It's a vast history that could be covered in 100 videos. To begin, I've chosen to focus on a small part of this story. I'll tell you how Vietnam became a colony within French Indochina and how Ho Chi Minh became a figurehead in the country's struggle for independence. We'll end this video by explaining how the declaration of independence on September 2, 1945, triggered the start of the Indochina War.
