The Celebration of the Lord's Supper, Part 1 Message preached by Pastor John MacArthur on May 9, 1976 Base text: 1 Corinthians 11:17–22 “1 Corinthians chapter 11, and this morning we came to verses 17 through 34. 1 Corinthians 11:17-34. Now, this is a very critical part of the New Testament because it deals with the celebration of the Lord's Supper. It has to do with communion. Any of you who have been Christians for any length of time or who have been close to the church for any length of time are aware of the importance the church places on two ordinances in particular: baptism and the Lord's Supper, or communion. The reason we place such importance on these two is because the Lord told us to. They are commanded ordinances for the church, Both were commanded and instituted, and the example was set by our Lord Jesus Christ. We give high priority to baptism and high priority to the Lord's Supper. I truly believe this is very important as a matter of obedience, and I think a Christian should question their own commitment to obedience if they have not been obedient in these two areas…
