The Joys of Cycling the Grantham Canal

Ride by the numbers: https://ridewithgps.com/trips/114746069 On a cold crispy dry Winter's day I left Fiskerton heading South towards Radcliffe-upon Trent to join the Grantham Canal. After leaving the River Trent I began my journey the other side of Radcliffe following an old disused railway to Cotgrave Country Park. Now a gravel track, this was a beautiful trouble-free route which lead all the way through the country park and linking directly on to the start of the Grantham canal. Pretty much all over the canal path that I travelled was either gravel track or single dirt track aside from half a mile of grassy messy on the way towards Plungar. After Plungar I actually the canal at this point instead heading directly towards Belvior Castle opting to rejoining the canal further along at Duckthorpe Lane near Woolsthorpe by Belvoir. From there the canal got even better with many people walking their dog or just going for a stroll along the canal bank. I think on the next off-road trip out that way I will try and ride the whole canal next time between Plungar and Duckthorpe Lane. And although that part remains a mystery, the large part of the canal I did ride alongside was very pretty and I can seeing being a magnetic for fisherman, dog walkers, children and other cyclists in the warmer Summer months. I cannot comment on the coffee shops and cafes as I never stopped riding, but there were indeed some just off the canal and will no doubt visit in future.
