COMPARATIVA OPEL CORSA VS PEUGEOT 208 | By #CdRas
This week, we've put our team of testers to work hard, as we wanted to offer you a comparison of two "utilities" that have many things in common, beyond being city cars. The Opel Corsa and the Peugeot 208 are developed on the same platform, the CMP. In other words, they're the same car, and in this case, with the same engine, as we're testing the 100-hp hybrid version. The dimensions of both vehicles are those of a city car, small enough to move easily around the city and allow for easy parking in tight spaces. However, despite their size, they can comfortably carry four passengers. For a fifth occupant, the width in the second row makes it very cramped for three adults. The Peugeot 208, despite its facelift, has practically the same dimensions as its predecessor. It maintains its 1.75 m width and 1.43 m height, but grows 1 centimeter in length to 4.06 meters. The Corsa also shares its length with its predecessor and the 208, so it has the same length of 4.06 m. Its width is one centimeter greater than that of the French utility vehicle, at 1.76 m, and its height remains unchanged at 1.43 m. In both models, as they are produced together, another similarity is their wheelbase of 2.53 m. The design of both vehicles is surely the most differentiating aspect between each model and perhaps what can make a buyer opt for the Corsa or the 208. The German utility vehicle has had a completely revamped front end, which now incorporates the Opel Vizor, which is Opel's name for the design style of its new front end. The main highlights of this model include more horizontal lines and a grille fully integrated into the headlights, giving it a sportier touch than the replaced model. At the rear, despite maintaining the taillights, Opel has restyled their shapes and repositioned the Corsa lettering. The 208, in addition to incorporating the new logo, features a wider grille and a modification to its front LED headlights, which have gone from one stripe to three. The taillights have also undergone modifications, and Peugeot has evolved the design from three vertical LED stripes to three horizontal stripes. In addition, the 208 range features new body colors that perhaps make it stand out more than the German model. Another of the most distinctive elements of both models is their interior, which differs significantly in appearance. Opel has modified the Corsa's interior in both its appearance and its technology, with elements such as a larger 10-inch screen integrated into the dashboard, as well as its controls, with a greater presence of touch buttons instead of mechanical ones, offering a simpler interior. The Peugeot 208, despite having minor design modifications, maintains the structure practically the same as the previous model. As for trunk capacity, both the Corsa and the 208 are identical and have a capacity of 309 liters, the same as their predecessors. With all this data, since both are really similar, it's difficult to decide between the two models, and perhaps what can most tip the balance in favor of one or the other is the price or the design we prefer. What is clear is that both the 208 and the Corsa are very interesting options if we are thinking of purchasing a utility vehicle that offers extensive equipment at a relatively low cost. Their main competitors are, in general, more expensive. For this test, we opted for the 100 hp option, and there's no doubt it's the right and optimal option. The 100 hp output is incredibly powerful, and it even seems to have more horsepower than the approved capacity. They have no problem in complicated maneuvers such as starting from a standstill or during hard recovery. Overtaking on secondary roads or entering fast lanes are not critical moments. This way, reliability is guaranteed. We opted for the automatic transmission. The EAT8 gearbox is a fantastic option for increasing comfort without reducing performance or increasing fuel consumption. For me, it's the winning option. It's true that it means an increase in price, but in the long run, the benefits clearly outweigh the drawbacks. #CdRas is your motor program in Spain.
