Always, both today and almost two thousand years ago, many Christians have been interested in the same question: why did God's chosen Jewish people not accept the Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah? Why did they reject Him, thereby sealing their fate? And so, in today's Epistle to the Romans, the author of the Epistle to the Romans, the holy Apostle Paul, explains to the reader that the blinding of the Jewish people and their falling away from God is nothing more than a temporary phenomenon, allowing Gentiles to enter the Church of Christ. Rom. 105th chapter, 11:2-12 "Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the story of Elijah? How he complains to God against Israel, saying, 'Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have thrown down your altars; I alone am left, and they seek my life.' What then does the divine answer say to him? I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who did not bow the knee to Baal. Even so at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. But if by grace, it is no longer of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace. And if by works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work would no longer be work. What then? Israel did not receive what he sought; but the elect received it, but the rest were hardened, as it is written, 'God gave them a spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this day.' And David says, 'Let their table be A snare, a trap, and a snares for their recompense. Let their eyes be darkened that they cannot see, and let their back be bowed down forever. I ask then, have they stumbled that they will fall? God forbid. But by their fall salvation has come to the Gentiles, to provoke them to jealousy.
