Yamaha Hamamatsu Guitar Archive | Track Two - ‘Pointy Years’ | Paul Hindmarsh

Join Paul Hindmarsh as he explores the vast collection of rare and prototype instruments at the Yamaha Guitar Archive in Hamamatsu, Japan. Paul composed six short pieces as a musical tour of Yamaha’s unique guitar history. For this track, entitled “Pointy Years”, Paul picked an RGX1220R from 1987 for the lead guitar part. This flagship model of the early Yamaha RGX series featured Spinex pickups, using an alloy developed by Yamaha specifically for the magnets. “A high end RGX1220 was exactly the sort of guitar I wanted to find in Japan, and just what I wanted for this track. It’s an 80s classic, like the guitars I would dream about when I was a kid,” said Paul. Moving on to the bass, a 2009 BB2024X prototype was the right fit in terms of both look and sound. Paul recorded into Cubase recording software from Steinberg, using the Line 6 Sonic Port VX interface and Helix Native plugin.
