In this episode, we explore two of the country's wonders: Lake Issyk-Kul and the historic Burana Tower, not to mention a healthy dose of brutalism! Get ready to discover the "pearl of Central Asia." We left Bishkek (or Frunze, for those who watched Episode 1!) to immerse ourselves in the history of the Silk Road. Our first stop is the Burana Tower, an ancient minaret that hides a fascinating secret: a Balbal cemetery, mysterious tombstones that testify to a shamanic and Turkic past, predating the arrival of Islam. A unique cultural fusion. Immediately afterward, we reach the legendary Lake Issyk-Kul. Known as the "hot lake" because it never freezes, it is the second largest mountain lake in the world. We'll explore its northern shore, which once served as a resort for the Soviet elite. The highlight of our coastal journey is the incredible Aurora Sanatorium in Cholpon-Ata: a masterpiece of Soviet brutalism overlooking the water, seemingly straight out of a film not even vaguely reminiscent of Titanic!
