Highlights Peasant spec! Crank windows, no tach, no problems! Carbureted 1FZ-F 4.5L straight-six Five-speed manual Overview Who needs EFI? Power windows? Automatic transmission? Self-adjusting HVAC? Power seats? All of that is luxury propaganda, the Peasent-Spec Land Cruiser professes. This is probably one of our more unique Land Cruiser finds, a base-model FZJ80. Jokingly called the Peasant-Spect here at Car Cave, it’s a perfect canvas for an off-road build or a dirt-simple daily driver. Anachronistic in a way, but modern driving characteristics over older generations of Land Cruiser, such as the 70-series. Think LX450 sold here in the US, but absolutely stripped down of luxury for us average peasants. And, even unique to a base FZJ80, this Middle-Eastern market version came factory with a carb - in 1997! That carb’d 1FZ is backed by a H151J five-speed manual. Underneath, the K295 is the beefy 9.5-inch ring gear differential, with a rear limited slip. It’s also coil-sprung front and rear, so it drives as well as a live-front-axle SUV can. Peasant-Spec came to us out of the country of Oman, so it is a practically rust-free example of an 80-series Land Cruiser, with only a few minor spots of surface rust - check our walk-around video!
