Hello everyone, welcome to SA Today on 18 May 2026. Today in South Africa, we begin the video with a large veld fire in the Bain's Kloof between Ceres and Worcester in South Africa today. Then, the Vanderkloof Dam is overflowing as it is currently around 108% full. The water levels in the Orange River keep rising. Overflowing Klerksdorp Dam Wall in the North West Province. Bees are collecting gum resin from a liquidambar tree. Interestingly, they do not collect this as food, but they use it to make propolis - a sticky bee glue which they use to seal, repair and sanitise their hives. A misty morning again in Brakpan today. The weather forecast across South Africa today is as follows: Firefighters are working to contain a wildfire that ignited earlier today in the Bain’s Kloof region, where challenging mountainous terrain, strong winds, and dense pine plantations are hampering efforts to bring the blaze under control. Meanwhile, a cut-off low is forecast to develop over the south-western Cape, resulting in isolated to scattered thunderstorms across much of the Northern and Western Cape, as well as the western parts of the Eastern Cape. Thunderstorms are also likely along the east coast, with isolated showers possible in parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo. Elsewhere, most regions will experience partly cloudy and dry weather. The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging coastal winds, which may create hazardous sea conditions between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas.
