This time, the main event of the Amami Oshima trip: a whale swim with sperm whales. We were taken care of by Marine Sports Amami. This shop has been holding whale swims in Amami for many years, and this is my first whale swim experience. I was worried about whether the boat would depart because it was the rainy season, but we set sail safely that day. Actually participating in the whale swim was much busier and more physically demanding than I had imagined. It involved searching for whales, moving the boat, and entering the water at the right moment. It was a constant cycle. And finally, I was able to see a sperm whale, something I had longed to do. Seeing it underwater was a special experience that you can't get on land. After the tour, I had tsukemen (dipping noodles) at Menya Kurobee, and that concluded the day. The highlight of the Amami Oshima trip was finally here—my first whale swim. Joining a tour with Marine Sports Amami, one of the pioneers of whale swimming in Amami. Although the rainy season made the weather uncertain, the tour was able to depart safely. Whale swimming turned out to be much more demanding than expected, constantly searching for whales and entering the water when the timing was right.
