Aracımla Umre ve Arap Yarımadası Gezisi Bölüm 20 Muscat Gate Museum ve Mutrah Fort 360° VR video

Muscat Gate Museum The Muscat Gate Museum is one of the most unique cultural landmarks showcasing the rich history, archaeological past, and architectural development of Muscat, the capital of Oman. Opened in January 2001, the museum offers an extraordinary experience both in terms of the artifacts it displays and the structure upon which it is built. Location and Unique Architecture The most striking feature of the museum is its location on the upper level of the historic fortress walls and a massive city gate on Al Saidiya Street, which connects Old Muscat and Mutrah. While modern vehicle traffic flows below, the upper level serves as a protected museum. Access to the building, which combines traditional Omani architecture with modern touches, is via stairs. What is Exhibited in the Museum? The museum chronologically and thematically covers the history of Oman from the Neolithic Age to the present day: Water Resources and Infrastructure: The museum details the water wells, underground water channels (Aflaj system), and water distribution methods that were the lifeblood of the city in ancient times. Historical Architectural Structures: Models and historical photographs of old Muscat houses, traditional souks (markets), mosques, ports, and forts are on display. Rare Maps: A very rare collection of old Muscat maps drawn by early European explorers, Portuguese cartographers, and Arab sailors is available. Viewing Point and Practical Information The museum is also famous for its panoramic views offered through its large observation windows. From here, you can photograph mountain passes, the historic city walls, and surrounding forts from a fantastic angle. Admission to the museum is free. It is generally open Sunday-Thursday from 08:00 to 14:00. Al Alam Palace, Al Jalali and Al Mirani Forts, and the National Museum of Oman are within walking distance. Muttrah Fort Muttrah Fort is one of Muscat's most iconic and photogenic historical structures, rising on a steep rocky hill overlooking the port and the Corniche in the Mutrah district, the city's old commercial heart. Historical and Strategic Significance The fort was built by the Portuguese, who controlled the region in the 1580s. Thanks to its strategic location, it was designed as a military base to protect Mutrah's natural harbor and old city from pirate or enemy attacks from the sea. It was expanded and fortified between 1624 and 1742 by the Omani Al Ya'arubah dynasty and subsequent rulers. Architectural Structure and Important Sections The fort has three main circular towers positioned to offer a 360-degree view of the surrounding area. In addition to the massive central tower at the summit, there are two smaller towers to the west and north. Inside, ancient stone walls, battlements, corridors where soldiers took cover, and historical iron cannons used in defense during that period are on display. Visiting Experience and Unique View Muttrah Fort is visited more for the magnificent panoramic view it offers than for the objects inside. When you go up; On one side, the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Oman and the enormous ships in the harbor, and on the other, traditional white Mutrah houses and mosque minarets perched on the mountainside. This is the ideal spot in Muscat to watch the sunset and photograph the evening lights of the coastline. Practical Information for Visitors Since the fort is located on a steep hill, you will need to climb some steps to reach it. It is open to visitors every day of the week from 08:00 to 23:00; the fact that it is open in the evening is a great advantage. The entrance fee for foreign tourists is around 3 OMR (Omani Riyal). Right at the foot of the fort is Mutrah Souq (Mutrah Market), Oman's oldest and most famous covered market. Follow us on our social media accounts.
