Rooturn : S’installer au Bénin aujourd’hui ? Ce qu’on ne vous dit pas

Rooturn: Moving to Benin? Dream, Reality, and Opportunities. Rooturn is an editorial and documentary project focused on Benin, designed to tell the country's story in a new way, through personal narratives, on-the-ground experiences, testimonials, powerful images, and a human, cultural, and strategic approach. The first episode of Rooturn begins with a simple yet profound question: what does it mean today to return to Benin, to settle there, to start a business, to build something, or even simply to envision the future differently? Through several personal accounts, the documentary explores the motivations for returning, the wounds experienced elsewhere, particularly racism, the concrete realities of settling in, the quality of life, the opportunities, the challenges, entrepreneurship, investment, creation, and the country's rapid development. Rooturn does not seek to idealize Benin. The project aims to offer a more accurate, concrete, and vibrant perspective, far removed from clichés and the simplistic or bleak portrayals of Africa often associated with the media. The idea is to show a real Benin, a Benin in motion, with its contradictions and challenges, but also with its beauty, peace, energy, potential, and everything that inspires us to believe in it, to return, to invest, or to create. The documentary highlights powerful personal stories: some returned after the Covid pandemic, others after traumatic experiences of racism or rejection in Europe, while still others speak of a genuine, almost intimate, "calling" to return and see what it means to be Beninese today. The film also addresses concrete and highly relevant topics: finding accommodation, understanding local customs, getting around, assessing the cost of living, experiencing the level of safety, discovering the local culture, observing the transformation of Cotonou, and sensing that the country is reaching a turning point. Ultimately, Rooturn portrays Benin as a country on the move, a country where much is happening, where you sense there's a moment to seize, an opportunity to understand, a place to claim. The project aims to convey this feeling through premium, modern, cinematic, and accessible storytelling. Beyond the film, Rooturn also aspires to become a broader universe of content about Benin: excerpts, short videos, in-depth interviews, vlogs, on-the-ground content, and potentially other documentary episodes. The goal is to create a strong brand that inspires people to discover Benin, to better understand it, and for some, to reconnect with it or envision a future there. Thank you all for your feedback and support for this first Rooturn film.
