Inside Essex’s Oyster Island | Mersea Island

I headed over to West Mersea to explore one of the most unique coastal communities in Essex. Known for its oysters, fishing history and tidal landscape, Mersea has a character completely of its own. Along the way I spoke with local people, including Tom from Haward Oysters, about the reality of oyster farming, the changing coastline and the growing risk of pollution affecting these waters. From the old houseboats and beach huts to the mudflats and oyster sheds, this became less of a travel video and more of a look at a place trying to hold onto its identity.
