3 legendary eateries of longstanding history at Singapore Kampong Glam
Blanco Court Prawn Mee Evolved from a street vendor in 1928, 4th generation owner CK has kept the heritage alive by keeping close to the prawn noodle recipe passed down by his great grandfather. The stall is famous for its prawn broth that customers can not get enough of. Broth cooked with pork bones is simmered for more than 24 hours. Prawn heads are also first fried before cooking into broth. Both broths are then merged into one, to form a rich, thick, balanced stock. Prawns are sliced into halves so that they are easily deshelled when eating. Each bowl is topped with deep-fried shallot and pork lard, which add an old-school taste. Your meal at the eatery won't be complete without pairing the noodle with Ngoh Hiang at the next stall. Best combination all under one roof! Watch the video for an awesome journey of how the chefs prepare and cook their signature dishes! Proudly brought to you by HappyCat.黑皮猫. Operating hours: 7.30am - 4pm Closed on Tuesday Address 243 Beach Rd, #01-01, Singapore 189754 Seow Choon Hua Restaurant Known for their traditional handmade Foo Chow fishball stuffed with minced pork, the eatery has been in business for 55 years. The family business, currently helmed by the second generation Ms Seow Yoke Leng, is still keeping to the tradition of making their specialties by hand - fishball, Yen Pi (dumplings stuffed with pork, prawn & chestnut). Since 1996, they have also introduced several other Foo Chow delicacies. Amongst them are Red Wine Chicken Mee Sua, stir-fried Rice cakes, Lor Mee, and Nian Gao. The fish paste, made from yellowtail and grouper, is blended for hours with ice and tapioca flour. As the manual work is labour intensive, it's difficult to pass the legacy to the next generation. In time to come, the trade might be at risk of disappearing. Check out the video for the handmaking of Foo Chow fishball, Yen Pi, Nian Gao, and many more! Operating hours: 10am - 8.30pm Open daily Address: 327 Beach Rd, Singapore 199560 Warong Nasi Pariaman In this video, we embark on an art-and-culinary journey that features artist Anagard of Sumatra, Indonesia and the local famed eatery Warong Nasi Pariaman, also originating from Sumatra, at Kampong Glam that offers sedap authentic Indonesia cuisines. Warong Nasi Pariaman: Established by Haji Isrin (who came from Indonesia) in 1948, the 74-year-old eatery is now helmed by the second generation owner Munan Isrin. What makes their cuisines so attractive that it perpetually invites long queues? The answer lies in the way the eatery cooks their food. Ikan Bakar is prepared by grilling Selar fish over charcoal for long hours to achieve a smokey flavour. Their attention to detail is almost impeccable - even their fried chilli sauce comes with a smokey flavour that is so irresistible! Infused with rempah (spice), the Beef Rendang is moist and tender. Gulai Sotong is also another popular dish. Operating hours: 8am - 3pm Closed on Wednesdays Address: 738 North Bridge Road, Singapore 198706 Cuturi Gallery: Anagard's peace-themed artwork was named UOB Southeast Asian Painting of the Year Award 2019. Known for his street art using stencil spray paint as the medium, Anagard is currently the artist-in-residence at Cuturi Gallery. His exhibition will be held at Cuturi Gallery in mid-July 2022. To us, he is truly a master. Do give the local and international artists your support by visiting the gallery for their artworks! Operating hours: 12pm - 7pm Closed on Mondays Address: 61 Aliwal Street, Singapore 199937 ***************** Join HappyCat.黑皮猫 for more food adventures!
