English subtitles available – Presentation of VTA Diesel multiple units (DMUs) of AKN railway company (AKN Eisenbahn GmbH) – AKN Eisenbahn GmbH prefers to use VTA Diesel multiple units (DMUs) on its traditional main line. VTA are Diesel electric multiple units with 2 sections and 6 axles. AKN operates in parts of Hamburg and in the southern part of the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein (Germany). In that part of the VTA which is called car 1, the Diesel motor and the generator are mounted under the floor of the car body, and so you can hear the sound of the Diesel motor clearly. The motor was built by Cummins and has a power output of 485 kW. 4 axles of the VTA are driven, in both end bogies, they are equipped with electric motors of 125 kW each. A 2-sectional unit has a weight of 55.3 tons, a length of 32.6 meters and provides 96 seats. In the other part of the DMUs you hear mainly sound of fans and of the electronics. The electric equipment of VTA is from ABB Henschel. The DMUs were developed and produced by Linke-Hofmann-Busch. VTA were also used on line Linie A3 between Elmshorn und Ulzburg or Ulzburg Süd. Hessische Landesbahn (=HLB, in the federal state of Hesse) had DMUs that were very much alike. They were called VT2E there and were used on the line between Frankfurt (Main) central station and Königstein and on other lines.
