Venus looks like it should be Earth's twin. Nearly the same size. Nearly the same mass. Made of the same materials. Formed at the same time. But beneath its bright white clouds hides the most hostile surface ever measured by human instruments - 465°C heat that never stops, atmospheric pressure 92 times Earth's, sulfuric acid clouds, and an atmosphere of carbon dioxide so dense it behaves like a supercritical fluid. Every lander we've ever sent to the surface was destroyed. The longest any machine survived was two hours and seven minutes. This is the full story of why Venus became what it is.
