Learn more: https://oui.surf/series/ouisurf-en-asie/ First stop: the Shooting Star, a small hotel run by an incredibly kind couple. Their warm welcome sets the tone. We slow down, take the time to breathe, and enjoy this little slice of paradise. Not far away, Steppin Lion, a Japanese surf shack with Jamaican influences, quickly becomes their headquarters. The best burgers on the island, genuine smiles, and a relaxed atmosphere like nowhere else. It's also on Tanegashima that Jean-Michel and Benjamin experience their first Japanese "dame": a little cultural reminder about the importance of respecting the locals when surfing a spot. No drama, just a humbling experience, quickly followed by a perfect session on a pristine left-hander found a little further along. Between surf sessions, the team had a blast. Mini-putt down a hill, tug-of-war, sleeping under the stars, sunrise yoga, and even tori sashimi, that famous raw chicken so typical of Japan. Jean-Sébastien introduced everyone to slacklining, and of course, Jean-Michel lost the bet. True to his word, he bought everyone a round to end the adventure in style. This final chapter in Japan left a lasting impression. Typhoon-like waves, genuine friendships, and total immersion in Japanese culture. For Jean-Michel and Benjamin, Japan will remain a "spiritual" experience, a perfect blend of respect, surfing, and freedom. Want to discover or relive the OuiSurf adventure in Asia?
