Deep Cuts: Stories of Kes (A Short Documentary Film) #sikh

A short documentary about the personal journeys of 3 diasporic Sikhs with their Kes (hair). Judged if you keep it, judged if you cut it. This film explores the judgment a Sikh faces about their decision to keep or cut their Kes in light of beauty standards, spirituality, and community expectations. This taboo issue is a divisive topic within the Sikh community and merits a vulnerable discussion in order to better understand one another. Follow the filmmakers: Amit Kohli -   / legit.amit   Sajan Sawhney -   / sajna.ve   About the filmakers: Sajan and Amit are childhood friends who grew up together in the Bay Area. They are truly ‘day-ones’––they were born 6 days apart in the same hospital! Since high school, they have released a multitude of songs and created a documentary together. Their art reflects their experiences as California-bred Punjabi Sikhs and their broad-ranging creative influences, both Punjabi and Western. They strive to have a positive impact with their work, addressing difficult, often taboo subjects in Sikh life, as exemplified in their documentary 'Deep Cuts,' which explores a Sikh’s relationship with their Kes (hair).
