It feels as if you've stumbled into a "Chinese provincial city." Most of the people you pass are Chinese, and the language spoken is Chinese. It's an unusual space where the Chinese yuan is used as a matter of course. The landscape, lined with "authentic Chinese" restaurants catering to workers from various parts of mainland China such as Fujian, Sichuan, Hunan, and Yunnan, offers the charm of experiencing a trip to China while still in Laos. However, it's also an entertainment district where the shadows of scams and the mafia loom. In the latter half of the video, we document the changing atmosphere of Vientiane Chinatown, comparing it to other Chinatowns and special economic zones in Laos that we've visited in the past, such as the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone and Boten. To conclude, we reflect on this chaotic night while slurping down our favorite Chongqing noodles.
