A spring tour of Mum’s garden

Georgie Newbery, flower farmer, florist, teacher and author, was taught to garden by her Mum, Gilly. Here’s a tour of Gilly’s spring garden, with salt (?!), pea sticks, dog’s tooth violets, the most incredible potting shed, a tree planted for the Queen, sowing a wildflower meadow, and finishing up with Georgie's Dad playing a variation on the theme of the national anthem because, though he may be nearly 90 years old he’s still got the sparkliest of fingers x I was paid by the yard to weed as a child, a great way to get a greedy child into gardening. I pay my kids to help out in the garden too. Vita Sackville West was paid to replace divots in the grass, Sarah Raven was paid to garden as a child. As a way to get people into gardening, a small recompense for jobs done has to be worth every penny. As a result I can spot a groundsell seedling at a hundred yards, and am still learning from Mum every time I see her garden.
