A talk given by Richard Heacock to the RCHS SW Group on 25th February 2025. Fayle’s clay tramway was the first railway in Dorset. It opened in 1806, and operated for 200 years, utilising six different track gauges. To tell its story, tonight’s presentation begins in the paleolithic era and finishes with the present-day Purbeck Mining and Mineral Museum. Richard Heacock is Treasurer of the Pewsey Vale Railway Society. He has given presentations to PVRS and other railway societies on: The Ilfracombe Line, The Furzebrook Tramway, The MSWJR and the SMJR.
