We visited the Urikiri Falls in Wakasa Town, Fukui Prefecture, and Kumagawa-juku, a post town that flourished on the Saba Kaido (Mackerel Road). Urikiri Falls is a famous spring water spot, selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Waters. Even in summer, the air is cool and refreshing, and the sound of the water and the lush greenery soothe the soul. Kumagawa-juku was once an important post town on the Saba Kaido, which transported Wakasa's seafood to Kyoto. The townscape still retains the atmosphere of the Edo period, and time flows slowly there.
