How To Replace Brake Pads And Rotors 2002-2005 Ford Thunderbird
IF INSTALLING HIGH PERFORMANCE BRAKES PADS AND DRILLED AND SLOTTED ROTORS PLEASE FOLLOW THE BREAK IN PROCEDURE BELOW! In this video I show how to replace the brake pads and rotors on a 2002-2005 Ford Thunderbird. This should also be a similar procedure for the Lincoln Ls as well. Unfortunately I did not get as much on video as I would have liked to have but tried to provide you with as much useful content as possible. When finished doing the brakes once the car is back on the ground it is very important to pump the brakes several times and then check the brake fluid level before driving. If you are just installing regular pads and rotors then it is not required to do a break in procedure, however if you are installing high performance brake pads with drilled and slotted rotors as shown in the video then a break in procedure is very important. If the break in procedure is not done then you will get a loud almost dragging noise when coming form a stop as well as the brakes will not perform as well as they could. If installing high performance brake please follow the procedure down below! Break IN / Brake Bedding Procedure This procedure is only necessary when installing high performance brakes! 1. Find a safe place to perform this procedure do not do this on a public road or where other vehicles, people or, hazardous conditions are present 2. Accelerate to 40 mph ans then slow down to 10 mph 5 times make sure to accelerate to 40 mph and slow down to 10 mph as quickly as you can. You should do this rapidly and not allow time for the brakes to cool. 3. Accelerate to 35 mph and then decelerate to 5 mph make sure that this also done quickly without giving the brakes time to cool 4. You should smell the brakes overheating after steps 2 and 3 are complete this is fine and mean steps 2 and 3 have been completed properly 5. Drive at a slow sped for about 5 minutes to let the brakes cool and avoid hitting the brakes if possible usually driving between 10 mph and 20 mph work well for this step. Also consider engine braking if you need to slow down during this step. 6.The brakes have been broken in and the car is ready to be driven and the brakes can be used like normal
