L'extrême débat #cdanslair 04-05-2017

“You’re a spineless candidate.” And you’re “a parasite.” Never has a confrontation between two presidential election finalists been so vicious. Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron clashed last night, Wednesday, May 3, 2017, in the only debate between the two rounds of voting. But it wasn’t really a debate at all. From the first to the last second, the two contenders for the Élysée Palace traded blows on every subject, from Brexit to sentence reductions, unemployment, and the euro, trying to win over voters in this final stretch. Two and a half hours of heated exchanges, attacks, innuendo, but also inaccuracies and misinformation. This televised duel was watched by 16.5 million people across all the channels that broadcast it, representing more than 60% of the audience. But beyond the audience figures, which were lower than those of the final debates in the 2007 and 2012 elections, what lessons can be learned from this evening? Can this debate, held four days before the second round, influence the vote? Who won this duel? According to an Elabe survey, 63% of viewers found the former Minister of the Economy more convincing than his National Front opponent. This proportion is very close to that of the French who intend to vote for him, according to various polling institutes.
