US targets Iranian infrastructure as Tehran claims strikes on Syria

The ceasefire is long over as renewed fighting between the US and Iran enters its second week. The conflict is also crossing new lines, with both sides accusing each other of striking civilian infrastructure. On Friday, Kuwait reported an Iranian strike hit a desalination facility after Tehran said Washington had targeted its bridges, rail infrastructure and an airport. Iranian health officials say dozens have been killed and more than 400 injured since the latest round of fighting began. Iranian missile and drone attacks have also targeted US military positions in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain. The Revolutionary Guard says it also struck the former US special operations base at al-Tanf in southern Syria, in response to the killing of an Iranian soldier. A Syrian military source denies Iran bombed the base. The strategic outpost, near the Iraqi and Jordanian borders, was handed over to Damascus after US troops withdrew in February. The alleged strike comes just a week after President Donald Trump met Syrian President Ahmed Alsharaa in Ankara, where Washington announced plans to remove Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.
