Today is December 8th and as per tradition in Italy you have to put up the tree and the nativity scene. I would like to take a trip back in time and go back to December 8th 1997, I was 9 years old and like every year I anxiously awaited Christmas for the presents, the lights, the family dinners with my grandparents, my uncles, my cousins... And that year Ferrero decided to make a nativity scene with Kinder eggs. It was a package that once opened could be built and transformed into a beautiful nativity scene, there were nine eggs and in each egg there was a typical nativity scene character, so Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, the Three Wise Men and the shepherds. In reality a nativity scene had already been made in 1996, but as a test in some areas of Italy. The one in 1997 is the first nativity scene officially distributed throughout Italy. I decided to open the eggs, closed there for 27 years and relive this emotion. I have an indescribable nostalgia for those years, because they were beautiful years. I'm not saying this because the 90s were my childhood, they were truly beautiful years, there were fantastic, new, colorful, creative things. They knew how to stimulate the inventiveness, creativity and imagination of children with genuineness and simplicity. Today unfortunately this thing has been lost - we know it - but there is a way to go back to those years: open the eggs of the 90s and relive those emotions and those sensations that are fantastic. The work traces the history of the egg from 1974 (this year the Kinder egg turns 50!) to modern times, focusing on the period from 1991 to 2004. It all started with the Happy Hippos, Ferrero revolutionized the concept of its surprises, introducing on the market - inside the Kinder egg already on the market since 1974 - a whole surprise, which cannot be assembled or disassembled, and which was also hand-painted, thus inaugurating a line of anthropomorphic animals capable of instantly hitting the hearts of the children of the time. After a few months, in January 1992 the Tiny Turtles were published, while in September of the same year the Crazy Crocos arrived. In 1993, however, it was the turn of the Frosty Frogzz, the LeoVenturas and the saga of the Dwarfs began. The Dwarfs could be found inside Kinder snacks, for example Kinder Brioss and Kinder Colazione Più, but also inside eggs. In 1994, instead, it was the turn of the PandaParty and the PinguiBeach. In 1995 the Crazy Crocos saga was re-proposed with new characters and a new series, therefore the Crazy Crocos were published and subsequently the Shalìbabà. In 1996, instead, it was the turn of the Drolly Dinos, the Glowing Ghosties and the Nativity Scene saga began. The Nativity Scenes could be found at the end of the year, therefore between November and December, and it was a package that once opened could be built and transformed into a beautiful nativity scene.
