SO MANY SOUNDS! – Shakmat Ballista Blast: Classic, Wavetable, and FM at your fingertips
The starting sound of a lot of patches is just one oscillator. Interplay with, evelopes and vcas give you a voice that you can start bringing some shape to a patch with. Something that’s always helpful is using an oscillator that’s able to cover a wide range of timbres so you can patch first and sound design as you go. Shakmat’s Ballista Blast covers this ground so well. It’s got all you need and more in a voice for your case. 3 different engines (Classic, Wavetable, and FM) and it’s go analog filters, a vca, and an envelope. The super power of Ballista is that it puts all you need immediately at your fingertips, offers lots of deep options and patching possibilities and the cherry on top is you can save your voices and recall them. I feel like that’s exceptionally rare especially in a voice this size. I’ve been messing with this thing for over a week and it’s been a blast. Every patch is hard to slow down and explain cause I just want to keep going and make music with it. It’s got the conveniences that I want in a voice and the sound with a huge range of timbres. Plus, a digital core means tuning is always on point. I think this was put together by a team who absolutely loves Plaits but wanted a performance tool that had a similar idea of offering a wide range in one module. Everything is so much more refined and considered though for performance and that ends up making everything feel wonderfully intentional. Don’t get worried though, there’s plenty here especially with Random and Velocity to keep this spicy and giving you happy accidents.
