January 2, 2017 [One Page a Day] “Rekab and Baanah” (2 Samuel 4) Preacher: Pastor Hong Yung-hee (Pink Pastor) http://sungminch.com Saul's only remaining son, Ish-bosheth, succeeded Saul as king of Israel. However, Abner, the trusted general, died, and Ish-bosheth himself was assassinated by Rechab and Baanah, his generals. Rekab and Baanah were Beerothites, neighbors of Gibeon, who had previously tricked Joshua to survive, and they held a grudge against Saul. So, when Ish-bosheth lost power, they killed him and took his head to David to offer it up. This is the most ordinary story of betrayal in human history. When power is at hand, people serve, but when power is gone, they abandon him as if nothing had happened. This is human history. However, everyone follows their own strength. When things were turbulent, King David, whom God had appointed, chose not to stand on his own side, but on God's side. He killed Rechab and Baanah, avenging Saul's royal family. As we begin this new year, let us all make a resolution of faith: not to live according to our own greed, but according to the Word. Let us share God's vision of coexistence, not a history of human betrayal, but to live as blessed children of God, pleasing God and sharing happiness with our neighbors. Let's fight in 2017!
