The pitfalls of northern waters. How the north greeted the Phoenixes. In this video, we'll show and tell you about the journey on the Phoenix boats from the cultural capital to the heart of Rus'. Every year, we close the season with an interesting route. This year, our route ran from the city of Shlisselburg to Veliky Novgorod. The total distance of the route was about 650 km. For four full days, we departed from the Neva River, sailed first along Lake Ladoga, then entered the Volkhv River, passed through the Volkhv Lock, and then along the Volkhv River to Veliky Novgorod. Our equator point was the Novgorod Yacht Club, located practically on Lake Ilmen. The Volkhv River flows out of Lake Ilmen and into Lake Ladoga. On the return trip, we again passed through the Volkhv Lock and then along the Novo-Ladozhsky Canal. We crossed two floating bridges, one of which opened manually, either independently or with the help of local residents. We visited the village of Kabona, a well-known stop on the Road of Life during the Siege of Leningrad. We also visited the Oreshek Fortress. This year, the water level dropped abnormally – about 1.5 meters, exposing the banks, and many yacht clubs on the Volkhv River became shallow. However, the shallow draft of our boats allowed us to complete our journey without any problems, and we passed almost everywhere we wanted to go. The draft of the largest boat in the SPEV model range, the Phoenix 700 cabin, is only 0.56 meters. The draft of the Phoenix 530 HT and Phoenix 510 BR is 25 cm, of course, including the outboard motor. Our expedition, which took place during the cooler months of the year, nevertheless included the full range of boats from the SPEV St. Petersburg shipyard. From the open Phoenix 510 bowrider, equipped with a powerful and reliable Reef Rider 100 pro (130 hp) engine, to the SPEV shipyard's flagship, the all-weather Phoenix 700 cabin, powered by a powerful and modern Mercury F200L DS V6 engine. All the boats that took part in the expedition were equipped with the Phoenix 530 HT, Phoenix 560, and Phoenix 600 HT models. They were equipped with independent Planar diesel heaters, allowing for comfortable sailing all day long, even in temperatures close to freezing. And yes, once again, we sailed with Reef Rider engines and were convinced of their reliability. None of the four Reef Rider engines installed on the Phoenix boats failed. Our beloved "baby" Reef Rider RREF60FUEL-T, which has already completed its third season on a Phoenix 530 HT boat, is in good health and excellent performance. The more powerful motors – installed on the Phoenix 510, 560, and 600 models – the Reef Rider RREF100FEX-T PRO (essentially 130 hp) – have currently clocked up between 50 and 180 engine hours this season and are also healthy, alert, and bringing us joy. 00:00 Arrival day.
