In 1951 Dearborn Motors produced a rural romance film about a city television producer named Bill who got a flat tire 154 miles from home and ended up working as a farm hand for the Holiday family. The farm had a Ford tractor. The tractor appeared several times. Bill and Pat developed a love and hate relationship that involved post holes, a water tank, and a sabotaged audition. The Ford tractor was the reason the film existed. Previously in America explores the films, footage, and ideas that shaped everyday American life — sourced entirely from public archives.
