Jan Jongert: "Plumbing the System" - Venice Biennale 2023

In this video, architecture critic Gokhan Karakus of the GAD Foundation interviews Jan Jongert / Superuse Studios from Rotterdam who is the curator appointed by Nieuwe Instituut of the Dutch National Pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. The Dutch National Pavilion entitled "Plumbing the System" responds to the overarching theme "Laboratory of the Future" set by Biennale curator Lesley Lokko. The Dutch National Pavilion exhibition aims to delve into the intricate systems underlying societal structures. The exhibition, open from May 20 to November 26, 2023, will present visionary drawings by architect Carlijn Kingma, notably "The Waterworks of Money," in collaboration with Martijn Jeroen van der Linden and Thomas Bollen, illustrating intricate financial and regulatory systems. Using water as a metaphor, the Dutch Pavilion seeks to reshape these systems for a just and ecologically resilient future, exemplified by a permanent rainwater retention system installation by Jongert and Superuse Studios.
