Cirque de Cagateille : 2 jours au cœur de la merveille du Couserans

The Cirque de Cagateille is a true marvel of the Couserans region and the Ariège Pyrenees. Located in the heart of the Ustou Valley, this natural glacial amphitheater—featuring cliffs over 600 meters high and numerous waterfalls—is an ideal playground for magnificent hikes. In this video, I take you on a challenging two-day loop to discover three gems: • Étang de la Hillette: a stunning lake nestled in a rugged, rocky setting • Étang d'Alet: one of the deepest lakes in the Pyrenees • Étang de la Lacarde: more secluded, less frequented, and so peaceful... Filmed in late May 2024, this magnificent trek also treated us to a spectacular array of colors, ranging from lush green forests to snow-capped mountain passes... We chose to camp out to fully savor the high-mountain atmosphere and spread the strenuous effort of the route over two stages. Please note: some technical sections can be daunting. This is a demanding hike (involving numerous handrails, slippery paths, steep slopes, etc.) that requires good physical fitness and familiarity with mountain terrain.
