La Guerre d'Indochine (1946-1954)
In the aftermath of World War II, the era of decolonization began. The aspirations for independence of colonized peoples started to be voiced, with the support of the two new superpowers, the United States and the USSR. For France, and from 1945 onward, the most significant challenge to its colonial domination was in Asia. Indochina rose up in August 1945, and Vietnam proclaimed its independence.
