HUMANS OF NKTI - Michael Angelo “Gelo” Salonga

#NationalKidneyMonth HUMANS OF NKTI - Michael Angelo “Gelo” Salonga For years, Michael Angelo “Gelo” Salonga carried a diagnosis that came with a deadline. Doctors had long told him that he might eventually need a liver transplant, but more than a decade ago, the procedure was not yet widely accessible in the Philippines. Like many patients, his family was advised to look overseas—an option that remained financially out of reach. As his liver disease progressed, Gelo began preparing for the possibility that time was running out. Then came a breakthrough. Through NKTI's growing Liver Transplant Program and the gift of organ donation, he received the transplant that gave him a future he once thought he might never have. Today, Gelo's story reflects NKTI’s promise of bringing advanced transplant care closer to Filipino patients—turning years of uncertainty into hope, recovery, and the chance to dream beyond disease. This testimonial video is part of NKTI’s celebration of National Kidney Month and was produced by the NKM Organizing Committee and the Strategy Management Division - Corporate Communications Section.
