Therapy. Licensure. Coaching. The Black Community Deserves Accurate Information #blackwoman

There is a conversation happening right now about mental health credentials — and the misinformation that has gone viral is putting the Black community at risk. When inaccurate claims about therapy licensure spread on social media — the people who are harmed most, are the ones who are already the most vulnerable. And the Black community has fought too hard to access mental health care to have misinformation undo that progress. That is why this conversation matters. Licensed Clinical Psychologist ‪@RaquelMartinPhD‬ — who holds a Ph.D. in Medical and Clinical Psychology and completed post-doctoral training — stepped up publicly to correct the misinformation and give the Black community the accurate information it deserves. As Dr. Martin noted — licensure is one of the most important things — requiring hundreds of supervised hours, rigorous examinations, and years of formal education before a clinician can practice independently. She also noted — in certain states it is illegal to refer to yourself as a therapist if you are not a licensed mental health professional. We are honoring that clarity by continuing the conversation.
