Day 5 Exploring Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Hanoi Train Street & Hoa Lo Prison

The President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (Vietnamese: Lăng Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh, Lăng Bác) is a mausoleum which serves as the resting place of Vietnamese revolutionary leader and President Ho Chi Minh in Hanoi, Vietnam.[1][2] It is a large building located in the center of Ba Đình Square, where Ho, Chairman of the Workers' Party of Vietnam from 1951 until his death in 1969, read the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. It is open to the public every morning except Monday and Friday Hanoi Train Street is a narrow, iconic railway section where trains pass inches from cafes and homes, particularly between Phung Hung and Tran Phu streets in the Old Quarter. Visitors can enjoy coffee while watching trains pass, though it is highly dangerous and requires following safety instructions. Current Status: Due to safety risks, the area has seen intermittent shutdowns by authorities and strict enforcement of rules Hỏa Lò Prison (Vietnamese: [hwâː lɔ̀], Nhà tù Hỏa Lò; French: Prison Hỏa Lò) was a prison in Hanoi originally used by the French colonists in Indochina for political prisoners, and later by North Vietnam for U.S. prisoners of war during the Vietnam War. During this later period, it was known to American POWs as the "Hanoi Hilton". Following Operation Homecoming, the prison was used to incarcerate Vietnamese dissidents until its demolition between 1993 and 1994. Its gatehouse remains a museum.
