#15 Afrontando el suicidio de un ser querido con Lola Fernández Ochoa

Lola Fernández Ochoa is one of the most recognized figures in Spanish sport and a member of the most emblematic skiing dynasty in the country. A former Olympic skier, sports manager, and communicator, she is now also one of the most courageous voices in raising awareness about mental health and suicide prevention in Spain. Her life changed completely after the death of her sister, Blanca Fernández Ochoa, a legend of Spanish skiing and the first Spanish woman to win a Winter Olympic medal. After facing grief, the stigma, and the silence surrounding suicide, Lola decided to break that taboo and turn her pain into a tool for prevention and support for other families. Since then, she has presided over the Blanca Fernández Ochoa Foundation, dedicated to supporting athletes and raising awareness about mental health, and participates in conferences, talks, and media appearances to ensure that no one feels alone in their suffering. 00:00 Intro: One death every 45 seconds 01:15 The probability of being born (we are a statistical miracle) 03:00 Suicide statistics in Spain and the world 04:30 Who is Lola Fernández Ochoa? 05:45 There is a Lola before and a Lola after Blanca 07:20 What happened to Blanca: depression after retirement 09:40 The guilt of those left behind 11:30 Does everyone who commits suicide have a mental illness? 13:45 The Twin Towers: they didn't want to die, they wanted to stop suffering 15:30 Bullying, young people, and cries for help 17:20 The last conversation with Blanca 20:00 “I should have asked for help… for myself” 21:45 Advice for families of people at risk 24:00 Is it good to talk about suicide?
