Monfalcone : Protecting Cymodocea nodosa in a busy coast | Docuserie ARTEMIS (Ep. 4)

In the fourth episode of the ARTEMIS documentary series, we travel to Monfalcone, in the Gulf of Panzano, where local authorities, scientists and sea users are working together to safeguard an ecosystem that is often overlooked but essential to marine health. At the heart of this effort is Cymodocea nodosa, a seagrass species that stabilises sediments, improves water clarity, stores carbon and provides shelter for juvenile fish and countless marine organisms. Building on previous initiatives, Monfalcone continues to support the conservation of Cymodocea meadows through restoration activities and long-term protection measures including with the installation of eco-friendly moorings - ecological buoy that helps reduce one of the main threats to seagrass habitats: damage caused by recreational anchoring. Beyond restoring plants, the project focuses on preserving biodiversity, supporting fisheries, enhancing water quality and maintaining Blue Carbon storage. Protecting the sea means protecting the communities, livelihoods and opportunities that depend on it.
