Residents of Alexandra, north of Johannesburg, have been left shaken following reports of violent protests and looting near the intersection of 8th Avenue and Joe Nhlanhla Street in Alexandra Township. Police and private security personnel have been deployed to contain the unrest, while residents say the sound of ongoing gunfire has heightened tensions in the area.
