Beauty standards were never just about beauty. From Queen Elizabeth I’s pale makeup, to Chinese lotus shoes, Victorian corsets, skin lightening, and modern beauty filters, history shows something darker. For centuries, people were taught that their natural bodies were not enough. They were told to reshape, lighten, tighten, cover, correct, and perfect themselves to fit whatever society called beautiful. But when you look closer, beauty standards were often about class, race, gender, money, and power. So maybe the real question is not: Am I beautiful enough?
