At the foot of Bongmyeongsan Mountain in Gonmyeong-myeon, Sacheon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, stands Dasolsa Temple (多率寺), an ancient temple founded in 1500 during the reign of King Jijeung of Silla. Established by Yeongijosa, Dasolsa Temple was originally called Yeongakssa Temple (靈嶽寺). During the reign of Queen Seondeok, Monk Jajang rebuilt the temple, changing its name to Dasolsa Temple. Dasolsa Temple was destroyed by fire during the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592-1598), and again in 1914. It was rebuilt in its present form in 1915. During the 12 years of Japanese colonial rule, Monk Manhae Han Yong-un lived in seclusion at Dasolsa Temple, where he organized the Mandang (卍黨) and engaged in the independence movement. He is said to have drafted the "three pledges" of the Declaration of Independence as one of the 33 members of the March 1st Movement at his residence, Ansimryo (安心寮). Novelist Kim Dong-ri, famous for his novel "Munaedo," opened a night school here and wrote the Buddhist novel "Deungsinbul." Meanwhile, Monk Hyodang Choi Beom-sul, the temple's chief priest, was an independence activist who served as a member of the Constitutional Assembly after liberation. Since the 1960s, he has cultivated large-scale tea fields in the surrounding mountains and fostered exchanges with local tea enthusiasts, making Dasolsa Temple the birthplace of modern tea culture in Korea. Hyodangga's brand, "Banyaro" (般若爐), has grown into a renowned tea brand. Dasolsa holds the "Dasolsa Seoncha Festival" every May.
