The city of São João de Pirabas is located in northeastern Pará state, in the Salgado region – about 200km from the capital Belém. The city is very close to Salinópolis (there's a video on my channel showing salt flats), about 40km away. It's bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and its economy is based on fishing, beekeeping, and more recently, tourism. The city is small and the region is full of beaches and creeks; the most well-known are Balneário do Pitiú and Sítio Lua de Prata. To reach the beaches, it's necessary to take a boat (there are no beaches in the city itself) – the most well-known beaches are Praia da Fortaleza, Praia do Castelo, Praia do Areião, Praia dos Pilões, Praia da Croa Nova, and Praia do Buraco. ➡️ [READ THE CAPTION] - The boat crossing costs R$20.00 (one way) and R$20.00 (return), totaling R$40.00 – this price is for a full boat. If you are traveling alone or with a small group, the boatman will charge a different price (to cover his costs, as it takes 1 hour to go and 1 hour to return from Fortaleza beach, not including fuel and the boatman's labor). So ALWAYS ask beforehand and agree on the price with him. It's a destination recommended for groups, families, and excursions.
