The Taliban declared a general amnesty for former Afghan National Defense Forces (AFDF), but this has largely not been implemented. The Afghan army's equipment inventory is largely based on supplies left over from the 2021 US withdrawal; its estimated value ranges from $7 billion to $10 billion. However, due to lack of maintenance, 40-60% of the inventory is unusable. The Taliban uses this equipment in internal security operations and border patrols; for example, Humvees played a critical role in clashes on the Pakistan border. The Taliban is carrying out various projects to modernize its army. The army restructuring project includes training camps and equipment repair. The Durand Line dispute with Pakistan has intensified due to TTP attacks. Negotiations are also ongoing regarding Donald Trump's request for Bagram Air Base.
