But let's take a closer look at the article. The article collects 11 complaints, including Ashley Judd, some of his former assistants, Emily Nestor, Asia Argento, Mira Sorbino, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Gwyneth Paltrow was crucial to the success of the New York Times investigation because, in addition to providing her testimony, she convinced other women to speak out. Immediately after the article was published, other women testified of abuse by the producer, including Angelina Jolie, Cara Delevingne, and Uma Thurman. In 2019, a settlement was reached with the producer regarding the civil claims, in which the producer paid approximately $30 million in total to the victims who had filed complaints against him. This is the civil case. The criminal case, however, was not resolved. On January 6, 2020, the first trial for Harvey Weinstein began in New York, where he was sentenced to 23 years in prison. In June 2022, his trial began in Los Angeles, where he faces a 140-year prison sentence. American actress Alyssa Milano, using the hashtag #metoo, encouraged people to report all the harassment suffered by victims in the entertainment industry, receiving 65 tweets in response. This led to further complaints against well-known figures in the entertainment industry such as Kevin Spacey, Dustin Hoffman, and Morgan Freeman. We discuss this and much more in this video!
