Route 66 Road Trip: Chicago to Springfield (Part 1 of 4)

Route 66 turns 100 this year, so we're driving the whole thing. All 2,448 miles, Chicago to Santa Monica, eight states, one road. This is Part 1: Chicago to Springfield, Missouri, the town that officially named the highway back in 1926. Along the way we hit a diner that's been serving the same corn dog recipe since 1946, a prison straight out of the Blues Brothers, a giant fiberglass astronaut holding a rocket, and the World's Largest Catsup Bottle. We're not just driving past this stuff. We're stopping at every weird roadside giant, every neon sign that's still lit, every diner that's been cooking the same food since before my grandparents were born.
