I left Montreal on July 2 on a Brompton folding bike to meet people with a positive and committed lifestyle. The 1st stage of this adventure was the meeting with Solenne and Jonathan who live in Saint Donat in Quebec. With a whole beautiful community, Solenne self-built this house from 0. A house built with the GREB technique, an ecological construction which consists of making a wooden frame and insulating the whole with straw bales and the whole with a mortar to hold everything together (1 part lime, 1 part cement, 3 part sand and 4 parts sawdust); which allows good insulation and living in a healthy, passive solar house. With Jonathan, they succeeded in creating their paradise, they recover all they can to continue to beautify their place, besides in the house, everything is based on recovery, a good way to avoid waste and to live in a house without a mortgage. I spent a few days with them following them in their daily lives and I thank them for having opened their doors to me with such authenticity. At home, the pace is slow, they have managed to slow down their lives and focus on what is essential for them, being in the middle of nature and taking the time to contemplate. Living better - working less - focusing on what is essential for yourself is the essence of this meeting! Thanks to them for the photos and the timelapse of the construction site.
