SPECIAL PRIZE — BEST PERFORMANCE OF ANTÓN GARCÍA ABRIL'S WORK — SHIRAZ QUARTET String quartet · Denmark This is the re-upload of the prize-winning performance by Shiraz Quartet at the 14th Antón García Abril International Chamber Music Competition, held on June 11–13, 2026, at the Teatro Dengra in Baza (Granada, Spain). The Danish string quartet was awarded the Special Prize for the Best Performance of a Work by Antón García Abril, for their interpretation of Cuarteto para el Nuevo Milenio. The Antón García Abril International Chamber Music Competition pays tribute to the Spanish composer Antón García Abril (1933–2021), one of the most significant voices in contemporary Spanish music, whose extensive body of work ranges from symphonic and chamber music to film and television soundtracks. Cuarteto para el Nuevo Milenio stands as one of his finest chamber works — a vivid, energetically charged piece that the jury singled out for Shiraz Quartet's exceptional interpretation. The competition was founded in 2012 by Paqui García Vázquez in Baza (Granada) with the maestro's direct support, and has since welcomed over 1,000 musicians from across the world. Shiraz Quartet — Yuval Nuri Shem-Tov (violin), Carlota Combis Clara (violin), Toke Hansenius (viola), and Lavinia Scarpelli (cello) — was founded in Copenhagen in 2023. Bringing together musicians from across the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, the quartet is defined by its rich cultural diversity and its commitment to exploring underperformed repertoire. They are currently enrolled in the ECMAster programme at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague.
