Episode # 5601 DOUBLE PARTNERS Original airdate: 8-26-56 This is a drama in which Loretta Young plays Ruth Baxter, a deaf woman who is also the wife and partner of a powerful attorney. She witnesses an unexplained explosion in their offices that nearly kills her, and soon discovers that her deafness is an asset in solving a murder mystery. Bruce Cowling plays her husband and law partner, Austin. Cowling was an Oklahoma-born actor who appeared in twenty films including Song of the Thin Man (1947), Battleground (1949), Ambush (1950), The Painted Hills (1951), Gun Belt (1953) as Virgil Earp and To Hell and Back (1955). He also voiced several characters on the Lone Ranger radio show and made several appearances in different roles on The Loretta Young Show. He died on August 22, 1986, at age 66 in Los Angeles, California. The mysterious man on the park bench is performed by Addison Richards, a film and television actor who appeared in more than three hundred films between 1933 and his death in 1964. He was cast in many television series, including the syndicated 1950s crime drama, Sheriff of Cochise, starring John Bromfield. From 1955 to 1961, he appeared in six episodes in different roles on the Loretta Young Show. Richards died of a heart attack on March 22, 1964 (aged 61) in Los Angeles. Police Sgt. Tuttle is played by Ross Elliott, who began his acting career in the Mercury Theatre, where he performed in The War of the Worlds, Orson Welles' famed radio program. Elliott appeared in more than 100 television programs, including the recurring role of crewman Cort Ryker on the syndicated The Blue Angels (1960–1961), and appeared 59 times in a recurring role as Sheriff Abbott on NBC's western series, The Virginian. He was cast as Virgil Earp in four episodes in 1958 and 1959 of The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, with Hugh O'Brian. He died of cancer on August 12, 1999 at the age of 82.
