Trombone Lesson: Lip Turns - How and When To Use Them

Lip Turns is definitely one of the most difficult techniques to explain on the trombone. In this video, I demonstrate how to practice lip turns and how to use them in place of playing the "triplet rhythm" when playing in the jazz idiom. I use the first phrase of the classic be-bop melody “Donna Lee” written by Charlie Parker as an example of how lip turns can be executed in the context of performing a piece of music. If you've struggled with lip turns, this video could be helpful to you!
